Zerofootprint and SANYO Canada Enter Into Strategic Partnership

Market Wire, July, 2010

Zerofootprint , a leading organization in the global fight against climate change, and SANYO Canada Inc. (SANYO), a subsidiary of SANYO Electric Co., Ltd., today announced a multi-year strategic partnership designed to mutually benefit both companies by sharing technology and tools to assist customers in reducing their environmental impact.

When purchasing solutions combining the various environmental and energy-related products from SANYO, customers will have the option to calculate their company’s environmental impact through Zerofootprint’s VELO Carbon Management Software .

SANYO’s solutions consist of technologies that contribute to energy generation (solar photovoltaic modules), energy conservation (high-efficiency HVAC and LED systems), and energy storage (industrial rechargeable batteries). Complimenting these technologies, VELO enables companies to manage the complex data requirements and operations for compiling their carbon footprint. It also allows them to measure and control their carbon exposure.

“Zerofootprint and the VELO Carbon Management Software present an exciting opportunity for SANYO Canada,” said Koshi Terakawa, President of SANYO Canada, Inc. “With this agreement, we offer customers the technology to reduce their carbon footprint as well as the tools to monitor progress and improve decision making.”

In addition, this collaborative project provides an opportunity for SANYO to increase the exposure for its Smart Energy Solutions by presenting them to Zerofootprint customers as solutions to assist in reducing their carbon footprint.

“We are thrilled to be working closely with SANYO, a leading provider of products that assist customers in reducing their environmental impact,” said Dr. Ron Dembo, CEO and founder of Zerofootprint. “We believe this relationship will make it much easier for customers to make sound environmental choices and meet their regulatory reporting needs.”

One afternoon, Andrew Truelove thought bullies were threatening Granby High School .

He drove to the school, grabbed a lug wrench and strode toward the athletic field. In his path, he grabbed an 8-year-old girl by the straps of her backpack and pulled her away.

Her older sister, a Granby student, and several others quickly took the girl back to safety.

On Friday, the girl’s mother told a judge that for a long time her daughter “was very afraid to go any place.” Two years after the attack, her mother said, she still gets anxious in crowds .

Judge Karen J. Burrell sentenced Truelove to four years in prison for abduction, ordered him to participate in psychiatric care and take prescribed medications. Burrell also barred Truelove from having contact with the victim, her family and Granby High School

GOOD DOG: Fixing aggression can save Fido

GOOD DOG: Fixing aggression can save Fido

Gazette, The (Colorado Springs), Jul 16, 2010 by Jim Beinlich

The extinction of a behavior, in a clinical or sterile environment, occurs when a behavior that was once reinforced, or rewarded, is no longer reinforced. There is typically a dramatic increase (burst) in the particular behavior initially, followed by a steady decrease in the behavior, until the behavior is no longer offered.

For example, a pigeon in a box is conditioned to peck a white button. When it does so, a food pellet is dispensed. If the reinforcer (food pellet) is no longer provided for pecking the white button, the pigeon will begin pecking frantically at the button. After a short period of time, the frequency of the pecks decreases, and eventually stops altogether. The pecking of the white button has successfully been extinguished.

I hear similar solutions given to clients by Purely Positive trainers for many behavior problems with their dogs, such as jumping and barking. “Just ignore the behavior, and it will go away all by itself.”

This rarely works in the real world, however, and here is why. The mechanism that controls the food rewards in the box with the pigeon is unemotional. It doesn’t get mad, frustrated, or tired. People, on the other hand, do

Dark text on a white background,

Dark text on a white background, for instance, is more legible than orange text on a red background. Different elements on your web page (i.e. the menu and body of the page) must contrast or they will begin blending together.

Color lesson:

A well-considered color scheme can transform an okay website into a great web site

Color is one of the most important yet not-so-thoroughly understood elements of web design today. Whether web designers appreciate it or ignore it, visitors to a site respond to colors and other visual elements on the site on a psychological level, and will continue to do so.

Color affects the emotion of the audience, and emotion, in the process, drives decision-making. An intrigued visitor is more likely to be engaged in your site — whether it is meant to inform, entertain, or to sell products or services or ideas.

But if the colors are unsuitable, or outrageous, or not in line with the underlying symbolism, the visitors can outrightly reject the site–and the products as well–no matter how good they are.

Spin3 Launches Groundbreaking Interactive Lottery System for Mobiles and Web

Spin3 Launches Groundbreaking Interactive Lottery System for Mobiles and Web

Market Wire, July, 2010

Leading full service mobile gambling solutions provider Spin3 *, powered by Microgaming , the world’s largest online gaming software provider, has launched a new end-to-end interactive lottery solution, LottoSpin , to enable federal and state lottery providers to extend their gaming offerings and grow new revenues. LottoSpin will be available in regulated markets worldwide and in the US on a state-by-state basis through a strategic partnership with Pulse Interactive, a US organisation with extensive experience in the US state lottery market.

The total lottery solution enables traditional lottery operators to leverage their brand, infrastructure and acquisition channels and launch their own interactive lottery offering. The total solution offers mobile and online gaming platforms while utilising mobile, online and land-based point of sale channels. LottoSpin is also supported with a robust back-office system which offers fully customisable analysis and performance reporting, transaction processing and a 24/7 customer support centre.

Matti Zinder, Head of Spin3 said, “Lotteries have to work harder than ever before to compete for players and profits. Interactive lottery services represent the greatest opportunity for the lottery industry, with people becoming more connected than ever before. The extension of traditional lottery services to interactive platforms with LottoSpin offers an exciting new revenue stream and enables operators to reach a much broader audience of players.

“LottoSpin does not compete with or replace lottery operators’ existing systems and infrastructure. Rather it supports and integrates with their existing offerings, leveraging their brand and point of sale network. In addition, the solution enables operators to effectively analyse and manage their interactive lottery offering, providing them with a greater understanding of their players’ gaming habits and enable them to create bespoke offers and maximise their profits.”

In addition to providing interactive lottery platforms, LottoSpin also offers a wide range of instant-win games to enhance the operators’ offering, boost their revenues by growing their player base and increase player retention

Courage and fitness were key to saving couple's lives

Courage and fitness were key to saving couple’s lives

0 Comments | Evening Times; Glasgow (UK), Jul 27, 2010 | by CAROLINE WILSON

A MAN’S fitness and courage probably saved him and his wife’s life after they were attacked in a bungled break-in, it has been claimed.

Robin Hyslop coached Johannes Alder, 37, who was attacked along with his wife at their Paisley home last Friday.

Paying tribute to the martial arts champ, Mr Hyslop said: “A friend phoned me on Friday night and I found it difficult to take in.

“Johannes is a very fit man and I’m sure that his fitness and his courage saved both their lives.

“It’s great to hear that Liz and Johannes are now both out of hospital.

Mr Alder, a five-times British champion in sombo wrestling, and his wife Liz, 38, are recovering after being knifed by two men who broke into their home.

Police are still hunting for the pair believed to be responsible for a string of break-ins that night.

Johannes was stabbed in the face and the neck after confronting the two intruders, believed to be teenagers, who had already attacked his wife at their home in Saucel Hill Terrace.

The crime has sent shockwaves through the community and senior figures in sombo wrestling, a Russian martial art which merges judo, ju-jitsu, karate and east European wrestling.

As well as winning the British title five times, Mr Alder has won the Scottish championships almost ever year for the past 10 years and represented the UK in the world championships.

Mr Hyslop, chairman of the British Sombo Federation, coached Johannes in England before he trained in Glasgow clubs.

“Johannes’s father was my Judo coach back in the 70s, he had a fantastic attitude and was respected by everyone in the Judo world.

“Johannes has the same qualities and is liked by all who compete in Judo and Sombo wrestling.

“He became my student at a young age and then went on to train at Glasgow clubs when he went to university.

“Johannes is an inspiration to many of the young competitors who love to watch him compete and a great ambassador for Judo and Sombo Wrestling.

“When I travel to overseas events there are always people asking for him.

“It’s frustrating to think that this just happened out of the blue. I hope the police catch the people responsible.”
